Introduction
The Department of Chinese Language was established at the College of Languages in 2025 as the first academic department in Iraq dedicated to the preparation of specialists in the Chinese language. Chinese is among the most widely spoken languages globally and is gaining increasing strategic importance in light of China’s economic and cultural growth and its expanding relations with Iraq. The establishment of this department marks a significant step in strengthening the College of Languages’ role as an academic platform for the study of modern languages. The department is committed to offering comprehensive programs designed to equip students with advanced linguistic competencies, while simultaneously fostering an understanding of China’s rich history and civilization. It aims to serve as a leading model in the teaching of Chinese, to support scientific research, promote cultural exchange with China, and provide specialized linguistic expertise to governmental, public, and private institutions, particularly in the fields of economics, politics, and related sectors.

The Department of Chinese Languages seeks to establish itself as a leading academic center for Chinese language education by delivering integrated programs that reflect contemporary linguistic and cultural developments and address the evolving needs of the labor market.
Mission
To provide high-quality education based on modern curricula and pedagogical approaches, responding to the requirements of the labor market by qualifying graduates capable of effective engagement in diverse sectors that demand proficiency in the Chinese language.
Objectives
1. Specialized Education: To provide students with the opportunity to study Chinese through comprehensive academic curricula encompassing the core language skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. 2. Advancement Research: To promote linguistic and cultural studies related to Chinese and encourage scholarly research in translation and in cultural communication between the Arab world and China. 3. Preparation of Qualified Graduates: To graduate specialists proficient in the Chinese language, translators between Arabic and Chinese, as well as researchers in linguistics to meet the needs of the labor market. 4. Economic Support: To contribute to the strengthening of economic cooperation and bilateral relations by preparing professionals proficient in Chinese. 5. Academic Exchange: To enrich the academic environment by hosting visiting scholars from distinguished Chinese universities, thereby contributing to the development of the department and the enhancement of academic quality. 6. Academic Accreditation: To pursue accreditation of the Department of Chinese Language from international academic bodies, ensuring the quality of higher education and its outcomes.
